Reddit SEO is more important than ever
Kill two birds with one stone
Reddit is starting to become a search engine.
Users are starting to put “Reddit” at the end of their search queries.
Google indexes Reddit threads and it sometimes ranks in the top 5 of the search results
It’s more important than ever to market your product or content on Reddit.

Background
Hey I’m Miguel!
I'm a new grad software engineer living in NYC and a part-time indie hacker. I built Journey Plus, an interface for Midjourney, that was recently acquired!
I used to be a pre-med student, but then I switched to computer science in the spring of 2021, my sophomore year. That's how I got started writing code.
I started with C++, and now I'm mainly building web apps with Next.js, TypeScript, and Supabase.
Keyword research
SEO keyword research strategy can be applied to Reddit
Search for keywords that are related to your product and your competitors
The advantage of using Reddit is that it has a high domain ranking and is a very trusted site
This has some great advantages:
allows you to rank on the first page for much more difficult keywords
content you post is very likely to show up on the top 5 especially for lower difficulty keywords
You can be more ambitious with your keyword targeting this way, aim for:
Search Volume: 1-5k
Keyword Difficulty: 50-60
This strategy kills two birds with one stone.
It brings in traffic from Reddit and Google search
Parasitic SEO
If there is already Reddit content for your target keywords, comment on these threads.
This is to build brand awareness and to let people know that you exist.
People searching for your brand is great for the search algorithm.
This takes a lot less effort overall than making your own posts.
I highly recommend doing this first to kickstart your Reddit SEO.
This strategy will start to compound as you start to scale it to multiple keywords.
On page Reddit SEO
On page Reddit SEO is very similar to general SEO strategies
Here are the guidelines I follow for writing my Reddit posts to optimize for SEO:
Place target keywords throughout the post
Title
First paragraph
Headers and Subheaders
Write helpful content that will make readers for a long time
Aim for >5 min reading time
The longer they stay on the page, the better it will rank on Google
Make the content scannable
Bullet points
Headers and Subheaders
Formatting
Italics
Bold
Underline
Highlight
Add links to credible resources
Include relevant images if possible
Reddit Backlinks
Great Reddit threads also function as a blog post in a way.
If you push out really great content, people will start linking to it.
You usually see this happen in other Reddit threads and even blog posts.
This makes your content rank even higher on the search results page.
Not a lot of people notice this about Reddit.
