How to find your users on Reddit
This is the most crucial step in the process
Reddit is a great place to find users for a product.
It is already segmented into sub-communities called “subreddits”.
Subreddits are a great place to find engaged users in the niche you are in, they are in that subreddit for a reason.
Here are some ways and tools to find your users on Reddit.
This is part of a series about how to market on Reddit:

Background
Hey, I’m Miguel!
I'm a new grad software engineer living in NYC and a part-time indie hacker. I built Journey Plus, an interface for Midjourney, that was recently acquired!
I used to be a pre-med student, but then I switched to computer science in the spring of 2021, my sophomore year. That's how I got started writing code.
I started with C++, and now I'm mainly building web apps with Next.js, TypeScript, and Supabase.
Define your ideal customer profile
Before you start marketing on Reddit, you must have your ideal customer profile down.
These questions need to be answered:
Who is your user?
What are they interested in?
What problems are they having right now?
What type of content do they like to consume?
Would they even use Reddit?
Answering these types of questions will help guide you toward finding the right subreddit to market in.
How to pick the right subreddit
Finding subreddits to market to
The subreddits are all labeled well, sometimes the subreddits you are looking for are one-word long nouns or verbs.
Some examples are:
These are general subreddits that could work for finding users since they have a lot of users.
More niche subreddits could work better than the general ones, here are some related to the ones above:
Your best bet is to experiment with multiple subreddits over time.
You can also use something like hive index or gummy search
High-growth subreddits
You want to put your content in high-growth subreddits.
High-growth subreddits are more likely to have engaged users, which is why they are so popular.
You can use something like subreddit-stats (the site was killed due to the Reddit API changes so the latest data is from 2023).
If your product serves dog owners, r/dogs would be a great place to place your product according to data from subreddit-stats.
If you haven’t, you can also find me on Twitter where I tweet about indie hacking, side projects, and code!
